Qualifications to start a career in Health and Safety

The qualifications that are required to make a career in health and safety are dependent on the type of role that you take. There are many qualifications that are appropriate, but most health and safety practitioners start with short introductory courses. When a greater level of knowledge is required a NEBOSH General Certificate qualification (approximately two weeks full-time study) is well recognised. A NEBOSH National General Certificate is, in reality, an essential minimum qualification for any full-time health and safety job. Many people then realise that they and their employers demand a greater level of knowledge. Most go on to study the NEBOSH Diploma (approximately seven weeks full-time study). The Diploma is the required level of qualification for most health and safety manager roles.  This is a more demanding qualification and I would recommend the Diploma to anyone who needs to have a full grasp of the challenges that a health and safety professional will be exposed to

Be a Life Saver- Learn Basic Life Support | Certification in BLS

B asic Life Support is also known as BLS , is used in the medical field to distinguish the types of medical care necessary to sustain someone's life until they can receive more detailed care. These skills are most often utilized by EMTs, paramedics, triage nurses, and anyone who has received BLS training . This type of medical treatment is needed in order to sustain someone's life in the event of a medical emergency. Some examples of when BLS would be needed include choking, cardiac arrest, or a near-drowning. There are three main components that someone would want to check when performing BLS. These are circulation, airway, and breathing. First, the patient's circulation would need to be checked by making sure their heart is beating properly so that blood can pump to the organs. In some cases, chest compressions may need to be performed to ensure that blood is circulating throughout the body. Their airway also should be checked for any foreign objects, sputum, or vom

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and its Importance

What is CPR C ardiopulmonary resuscitation ( CPR ) is an emergency medical procedure for a victim of cardiac arrest or, in some circumstances, respiratory arrest. CPR involves physical interventions to create artificial circulation through rhythmic pressing on the patient's chest to manually pump blood through the heart, called chest compressions, and usually also involves the rescuer exhaling into the patient (or using a device to simulate this) to inflate the lungs and pass oxygen in to the blood, called artificial respiration. Importance of First Aid and CPR in Workplace Most large organizations offer health and safety training for their employees. However, first aid and CPR are frequently overlooked. First aid and CPR training are critical for all employees and apply to every industry regardless of size. Whether the workplace is located on a construction site, in a factory or in a traditional office, every organization has employees who will benefit from f

Difference Between IOSH and NEBOSH

What are IOSH and NEBOSH? W ell, they are both similar in the sense that they are awarding organisations that provide syllabuses and criteria for well respected and widely recognised qualifications. Both offer a range of qualifications, aimed at different levels and a range of industries, although NEBOSH does have some more specifically focussed industry courses. The main difference between the two is that IOSH is also a membership organisation, the largest health and safety professional membership organisation as it goes. The main difference for you though will be in the qualifications, and you should find the qualification that suits your needs most, which won’t really come down to the awarding body. IOSH membership NEBOSH doesn’t offer membership, so if you’re looking to join a membership organisation where you can network, keep up to date with health and safety, and gain advice and expertise then IOSH is probably your best option.
